Google your own company name and be surprised...

In a recent study, only 81% of company websites were #1 on a Google search for their own company name.

This means that nearly 1 in 5 companies are taking 2nd or 3rd place for their company name. Or worse.

Very often the number one slot is a trade directory like finda. This is embarrassing but is often OK. The directory contains a link to the company's own site - and it also gives some credibility to the company site.

Getting to number 1 for your own company name is an early milestone for SEO (search engine optimisation).

Worth checking: try it out on your own company name and try some mis-spellings too. (Like "Christchuch xxxxxx")
